• In charge of nuclear and marine engineering teams at sea in submarines
• Responsible for the operating competence of my department undertaking all operations on the reactor plant, electrical equipment, and propulsion systems

Nuclear (Civilian):

• Emergency Planning Officer for Rosyth Dockyards
• Authorised Site Emergency Controller for Rosyth
• Responsible for the Company Emergency Plan and facilities, as required under Condition 11 of the nuclear Licence
• Nuclear site inspector for eight years in HSE, responsible for witnessing and evaluating the Command and Control at annual On Site demonstrations at his own licensed sites and assisting other inspectors at their sites
