Peter left the Army in 1999 after 9 years in the Army Air Corps. He trained as a Gazelle and Lynx helicopter pilot and completed tours in Northern Ireland and with the UN in The Former Republic of Yugoslavia (FRY). As an operational Flight Commander he was responsible for 18 pilots in theatre as well as all specialist pre-deployment training.
Peter was selected for an exchange tour to the Royal Navy. This gave him a useful insight into another Service’s command and control structures and applications, working on ships and with the Royal Marines. While on this tour he commanded the detachment in FRY and was responsible for all aspects of ongoing training, operational duties, welfare and health and safety for 65 personnel. He was also responsible for co-ordination with the NATO led air liaison office.
On leaving the Army Pete set up on his own and is MD of his company specialising in Industrial Rope Access Contracts, working in and around the UK (set up in 2001). He has worked on various projects in the UK, West Indies and mainland Europe. Exposure to the private and public sectors has given him a good grounding in commercial application of command and control while working within the boundaries of HSE where dynamic risk assessment is key. The nature of Rope Access is intrinsically hazardous therefore there is an ongoing requirement for damage limitation and emergency/contingency planning.
He is also a Ski Instructor and spends as much time as he can in the mountains, work commitments allowing.
Training Experience:
- Training Officer prior to UN operations in FRY.
- Operational Training Officer in theatre.
- Carries out internal safety audits on all training and health and safety issues involved in Roped Access work.
